To Mom

As I was driving through the streets that I drove growing up, I couldn’t help but be flooded with memories of my life in this town. Coming back home always grounds me. My mom is the constant.

With Mother’s Day approaching, memories of growing up with my mom came back in droves. We seem to be cut from the same cloth. Being a mirror of such a woman has never been something to complain about. She is, and continues to be, completely beautiful from the inside and out.

There was so so much that I never thanked my mom for while growing up. From who she is as a person, to the person she raised me to be, it’s impossible to put into words everything I appreciate about my mom, but I’m going to try.

So to my mom….

I have spent my entire life with you, and just when I think you couldn’t possibly be any greater than you already are, you surprise me. You have never faltered in showing unconditional love for me, and I don’t think I could ever thank you enough for that. We have cried and laughed to the point of crying together, and moments like that have always reminded me how much I mean to you.

We have fought and disagreed. We have said hurtful things to one another, but I know we’ve never questioned how much we love each other. You have stood by my side and supported me in absolutely everything. You have done countless things for me without hesitation, and I want to thank you for all of that. Thank you for providing me with every little thing I could have possibly needed while growing up.

Thank you for the birthday decorations every year, because I know how much you love to do that. Even at twenty-two years old there’s just something about waking up to a house fully decorated with streamers and balloons on your birthday.

Thank you for always installing confidence in me. Telling me to never give up, and that I can do anything I put my mind to. Thank you for always supporting me and believing in me. Anytime I have lost faith or run out of hope, you give me reassurance to keep pushing forward.

Thank you for knowing exactly what to say on my worst days. On the days full of sass or the days full of being sad for no reason, you always know how to cheer me up. Sure, sometimes I might not want to hear it but at the end of the day, I know you always have my back.

Thank you for teaching me how to be independent but still taking care of me. You taught me how to do laundry, clean the house, take care of the pets, cook my favorite dishes, and so much more. But at the same time, you still find time to do a lot of it while I’m home, which I truly appreciate.

Thank you for never allowing me to talk down on myself, and teaching me that self-love is one of the most important things I could have.

Thank you for giving me everything. You have scarified so much in order for me to live a great life. Words can never express my gratitude for that. Thank you for constantly reminding me how much you love me and never giving up on me.

You were there for me when I took my first steps, and you have prepared me to take my very first steps into the real world. Thank you so much for always saying the right thing at the right time. Thank you for being brave and honest and kind in somehow every single situation you have ever been in. And thank you for teaching me to show up to life with a joke in hand and some sass tucked in my back pocket. I couldn’t love you more if I tried.

3 Ways to be Happier This Summer + Summer Mood Board

A few weeks ago I went scrolling through my Pinterest and picked out some of my favorite pictures that reminded me of and got me excited for summer (not that I wasn’t already excited).

This summer I’m looking forward to a trip to Arizona, and a trip to Chicago, trips to the farmer’s market, barbecues, warm and sunny weather, and baseball games!

Do you have anything fun planned this summer?

Final exams are over and final grades are in, which means SUMMER! Although I am taking two online classes and working (almost) full time, summer means happiness, friends, pools + lakes, traveling, and memory making. It’s my last summer before entering the real world, so I’m determined to make this the best one yet. Here are three things that I have decided to focus on this summer (and you should consider as well)!

I’m taking way less credits this summer than I do during the school school, but I will still be pretty busy because I’ll be working close to full time. When I get busy I find myself saying “no” to a lot of invites, friend invites, and adventurous opportunities. So this summer I’m going to focus on saying “yes” to more things!

Summer is a great opportunity to road trip to your friend’s house, or bring your co-worker an iced coffee in the morning. Little things often mean more than people know. I dare you to compliment someone. Whenever I am complimented I guarantee I remember it and think about it the entire day (and I bet you do the same). Brighten up summer for someone else!

Take pictures. Keep a journal. When gloomy fall comes around you will have lots of memories to remind you of the bright, summer days!

What I’ve Gained In East Lansing

Processed with VSCO with a4 preset

It is the last week of my second year at Michigan State, and for some reason I have found myself reflecting on these past two years every chance I get.

The other day, I was talking to a friend that’s about to graduate. She was talking about how much she’s gained from her four years at MSU, and how great its been. That really stuck to me. It got me thinking…what have I gained in the past two years at MSU?

When I first started thinking about this, I panicked. I felt like I needed to line up all of the perfect parts of my life that I’ve gained from transferring here. A potential job lined up for after graduation, someone that I want to spend the rest of my life with, a list of potential bridesmaids, etc. etc.

The short answer–I have none of those things at the moment. Well, besides a list of potential bridesmaids for a wedding that may or may not ever happen. Does that mean I’ve gained nothing?

No, not at all.

So, what have I gained from the past 2 years here? What will I cherish for the rest of my life and thank Michigan State for?

I am struggling to organize my thoughts on this question. There are so so many aspects of my life that wouldn’t be the way that they are without my decision to transfer to Michigan State two years ago. I wouldn’t have gained the most important friendships in my life. I wouldn’t have an enormous network of inspiring, driven people, motivating me to be my best self.

I wouldn’t have found my passion for inner-city/urban education.

I wouldn’t have all the opportunities I’ve had to chase my dreams.

I wouldn’t be able to call East Lansing home.

It’s crazy to think how a decision that I made two years ago in a mind that is so vastly different from my mind today, can play such a huge role in how my life has played out. As I continue through my fifth and final year, I will continue to reflect and write down my raw thoughts and feelings. I will take in every single moment and take nothing for granted. And I will look forward to what is to come.

So did I find my soul mate? No, maybe not. But that’s not what I came here looking for. I came here looking to find lifelong friendships. I came here looking to chase my dreams. I came here looking to find myself. And I can honestly and confidently say that’s what I’m going to walk away with in one short year.

Products I’m OBSESSED With

There are a few products that I absolutely cannot live without. I can honestly tell you that I have almost tried it all when it comes to hair and beauty. If you ask about it, the chances that I own it or have tried it are pretty high. I probably take more trips to Ulta and Sephora, than I do to the grocery store…yikes. At least I’m able to tell you what’s worth it and what isn’t! Here are some products that I 10/10 recommend and use everyday!

1…IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream – Ulta and Sephora $38

I am not lying when I tell you this stuff is a gift sent from the gods. I have been using this as my everyday foundation for almost a year, and I can honestly say I have never found something that makes my skin look and feel so good. It goes on super easy, is super light weight, and is actually really good for your skin. I’m not a fan of foundations that feel cakey, or look unnatural, and this is the exact opposite.

2…IT Cosmetics Concealer – Ulta & Sephora $24

As you can probably tell, I am a huge fan of IT Cosmetics and their products. Like the CC+ cream, this concealer is amazing. I struggle with dark under eye circles and this completely covers them up. I also like to use this when I have really bad breakouts or unevenness I need to cover. This little tube of magic will cover anything and everything.

4…Too-Faced Bronzer – Ulta & Sephora $30

My favorite bronzer is Too-Faced in the shade chocolate. A little goes a long way, which is nice because it lasts a while. For a bronzed summer look, I also use a little of this on my eye-lids in place of eye shadow.

5…Too-Faced Mascara – Ulta & Sephora $23

If I had to only live with one makeup product for the rest of my life it would be mascara. I have been using the Too-Faced Better Than Sex Mascara for a few years, and I love it. I have really light and short eyelashes and this provides the falsey look.

6…Kevin.Murphy Leave in Conditioner Locate Kevin.Murphy salon

I have used so many different hair products that did absolutely nothing for me. I was always wasting money, and hoarding a ton of useless bottles of hair care products. This leave in is the best! It detangles, strengthens, and restores hair, while also protecting hair from heat up to 200°F. I have pretty fine hair so I’m always trying to find products that don’t weigh it down. This product is perfect because it is super light weight!

7…Mario Badescu – Rosewater Facial Spray – Ulta & Sephora $7

I take this everywhere I go. I LOVE the way it makes my skin look and feel. I spray it after washing my face every morning and at night. I also using it as a setting spray every once in awhile, and it’s great to use as a refresher during the day.

8…IT Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush in Perfect Nude – Ulta $24

Screen Shot 2018-04-27 at 12.05.05 PM

I’m a fan of the natural makeup look, so I’m not huge into lipsticks and lip glosses, but I do like to wear something! I love this lip gloss because it has a beautiful natural flush of color, and the quality of it is to die for. It applies amazing; it’s lightweight; and it hydrates, repairs, and protects lips!

9…Nature Queen Shampoo and Conditioner Nature Queen Website $45

Screen Shot 2018-04-27 at 12.31.40 PM

I am going to post a product review of these two things soon, so I am going to keep this short…but this stuff is AMAZING! I have been using both the shampoo and conditioner for five months, and my hair is so much healthier and shinier than it was before. The hair care line bases their brand on all natural herbal ingredients, which I love!

Spotify Playlists

If you know me, you know I am truly obsessed with listening to music. I am pretty much listening to it from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed, and when I leave my apartment for the day without my headphones, I feel naked (so dramatic…I know).
Spotify is probably the most used app on my iPhone/iPad/MacBook. If  I’m not adding songs to an old playlist, I am probably creating a new one (my favorite way to procrastinate when doing homework). Here are all of my Spotify playlists…go check them out!!

For Ur Ears: My favorite playlist! If you were ever curious about the songs that I sing and jam out to in the shower, in the car, while cooking dinner, and walking to class, check out this playlist. “For Ur Ears” is a playlist that consists of all my favorite songs right now! (It is also the playlist that is linked over there —>)

More: This playlist kind of has everything. It has my favorite songs (current and past), songs that are currently popular or are on the top charts, and some random songs that I thought were cool and catchy. I am always updating and adding songs to this playlist so if you are looking for some new music, go listen!

Morning Coffee: As soon as my alarm goes off at 6:30 I start playing this playlist. I really wasn’t lying when I said I listen to music from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed. I would classify this playlist as “feel good music.” If mornings aren’t really your thing, or you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, this playlist will make for a better morning!

Girl Power: “Girl Power” is truly all about the girls! #SorryNotSorry boys.

Bring On The Night: Headed out to the bars tonight?  “Bring On The Night” is the perfect playlist for getting ready for the night, playing drinking games, and making (or losing) memories with your closet girlfriends!

Chill Out: This is another one of my favorite playlists that I have. I always play it when I am studying or doing homework. All the songs are laid back so it makes it easy to focus. I  also play it when I want a ‘chill’ vibe.

Feels: Sometimes you just want to feel all of the things. I get it. We’ve all been there.

Good Vibes: Get happy with this pick-me-up playlist full of feel good songs!

Mix It Up: Anyone that know me know that I love to listen to remixes of songs. This playlist consists of remixes of popular songs! Give it a listen!

Throwback: If you are a 90s or early 00s baby, this playlist is for you! This playlists has all the hits that were played during those classic middle school dances.

Rap: This one is pretty self explanatory. Go give it a listen!

Country: This one is pretty self explanatory too, but seriously who doesn’t love country music?! If you are driving with the windows down on a sunny day, laying on the beach, or just love country music as much as I do, check out this playlist!
