Sharing My Spotify Secrets (+ Summer Playlist)

Is it just me or does it seem like all the best music comes out during the summer time? I’m currently at a local coffee shop getting some work done while listening to my Spotify playlists. I decided wanted to share my current Summer playlist that I’ve been adding to the past few months as well as how I find my music. Here’s the playlist that’s filled with the perfect summer sound!

One of my favorite things about Spotify is how easy it is to discover new music and artists. From long drives to walking to class, I am always playing music and I tend to get bored playing the same stuff over and over. Here’s my “secrets” on how I use Spotify to it’s fullest potential!

1. Check out your personalized playlists. Every Monday Spotify updates your Discover Weekly playlist, and every Friday it updates your Release Radar playlists. These are the two playlists I like to put on when I’m stuck in rush hour traffic going to/from work. I also put these playlists on when I just want to hear something new. Some weeks my Discover is WAY better than others–like last week I saved almost half of the songs–and other weeks it kind of sucks (for lack of better words). It really just depends, but I totally rely on these to find my new favorites.

2. New music Friday. One of my favorite playlists on Spotify is the New Music Friday playlist. As you might of guessed, Spotify updates this every Friday morning with the week’s newest releases. I never actually listen to this playlist all the way through, but every Friday morning I scroll through it, click on songs I think I’ll like (based on the artist), listen to different parts of it, and then I’ll decide if I want to save it to one of my playlists or not. I never listen to the playlist all the way through because 1. it’s really long and 2. they add songs from a number of different genres, so I just try to find the songs from the genres that I like and listen to!

3. Follow people. I like being able to see what other people are listening to, but this is also how I find new music. If I see something that intrigues me that one of my friends is listening to, I’ll check it out.

4. One big playlist. If you have ever looked at my Spotify profile or playlists, you have probably seen my “more” playlist. This playlist has literally just about everything–my absolute favorite songs and songs that I just came across and liked. I also don’t delete songs from this playlist, like I do with my other ones, so sometimes when my discover isn’t the greatest and I’m getting sick of my current playlists, I shuffle through this playlist. I know I’ll like them and it’ll bring back songs that I forgot about!

I just might be way too into Spotify and finding new music but hopefully this helps someone expand their music! Comment your Spotify username below and I’ll follow you!

Music Favorites: May 2018

Hey everyone!

So this morning I woke up and realized there’s only a week left in May…June 1st is a week from today..WHAT?! Am I the only one that feels like this year is flying by? Anyway…if you read my Spotify Playlists post you know I basically listen to music 25/7. So since I’m constantly playing music and it’s the end of May I thought I would share some of the songs I’ve been playing on repeat this past month! My music favorites are always changing, but sometimes there’s those few songs that will always have a special place in my heart (and jam sessions)!

Enjoy! And don’t forget to follow me on Spotify here 🙂

WINNEBAGO by Gryffin feat. Quinn XCII & Daniel Wilson

The sky is blue, the weather is warm, and you’re in the mood for a feel-good jam with just enough reggae influence to fit the summer vibe. Turn on and turn up “Winnebago” by Gryffin feat. Quinn XCII & Daniel Wilson. It was released back in April, and I’ve been listening to it on repeat ever since.  Billboard described this song as, “the kind of song you would expect a cartoon character to blast with the windows down on its favorite day off.” In other words, “Winnebago is the perfect feel-good, sun-soaked, summer anthem!

BE SOMEBODY by Over Easy & Lydia Kelly feat. YON

This is a song that makes my favorites lists every time I make one. “Be Somebody” was released back in late February, and I’ve been playing it on repeat ever since. You know those songs that you can listen to only when you’re in the right mood? Well, this is NOT one of those songs. It’s an electronic and pop crossover track that’s perfect to play no matter what mood you’re in or what you’re doing. Walking to class? Turn on “Be Somebody.” Studying or trying to get work done? Play “Be Somebody.” Want to jam out and pretend you’re not tone deaf (like me)? Turn up “Be Somebody.” I’m not kidding, such a good song!

THE REASON by Chelsea Cutler

Chelsea Cutler just released this song last week, and I think I’ve already listened to it a thousand times. If you haven’t listened to this song, or any of Chelsea’s songs, you’re missing out (and you probably live under a rock)…go listen. “The Reason” is an unbelievably catchy indie electronic and pop recording that was written  by Chelsea herself. Her voice is so unique and interesting that it draws you in from the first lyric, and she shows a side of vulnerability that makes her so relatable. Chelsea Cutler is by far my favorite artist–she’s so incredibility talented!

DRIFTER by IZII & Christian French

IZII & Christian French teamed up for “Drifter,” which was also released early last week. The new release is a perfect summertime tune. The two artists explore the wistful and passionate nature of a short lived summer romance through the unique blend of pop and electronic music. Not only is “Drifter” a solid tune to help carry you through the sunny summer days ahead, but it also does a remarkable job at putting you in your feels at the same time. If your looking for a song with summer love vibes, then this song if for you.

ONE MORE DAY by Afrojack X Jewelz & Sparks

With distinctly catchy rhythms, amazing vocals, and a drop that will make listeners swoon, “One More Day,” is another song that is perfect for summer. This will be a song that I will be turning up all summer long–it’s just really fun!

What are some of your favorite songs right now?! Leave them in the comments, and I’ll check them out. I love listening to new music!!

If you know me, you know I am truly obsessed with listening to music. I am pretty much listening to it from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed, and when I leave my apartment for the day without my headphones, I feel naked (so dramatic…I know).
Spotify is probably the most used app on my iPhone/iPad/MacBook. If  I’m not adding songs to an old playlist, I am probably creating a new one (my favorite way to procrastinate when doing homework). Here are all of my Spotify playlists…go check them out!!

For Ur Ears: My favorite playlist! If you were ever curious about the songs that I sing and jam out to in the shower, in the car, while cooking dinner, and walking to class, check out this playlist. “For Ur Ears” is a playlist that consists of all my favorite songs right now! (It is also the playlist that is linked over there —>)

More: This playlist kind of has everything. It has my favorite songs (current and past), songs that are currently popular or are on the top charts, and some random songs that I thought were cool and catchy. I am always updating and adding songs to this playlist so if you are looking for some new music, go listen!

Morning Coffee: As soon as my alarm goes off at 6:30 I start playing this playlist. I really wasn’t lying when I said I listen to music from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed. I would classify this playlist as “feel good music.” If mornings aren’t really your thing, or you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, this playlist will make for a better morning!

Girl Power: “Girl Power” is truly all about the girls! #SorryNotSorry boys.

Bring On The Night: Headed out to the bars tonight?  “Bring On The Night” is the perfect playlist for getting ready for the night, playing drinking games, and making (or losing) memories with your closet girlfriends!

Chill Out: This is another one of my favorite playlists that I have. I always play it when I am studying or doing homework. All the songs are laid back so it makes it easy to focus. I  also play it when I want a ‘chill’ vibe.

Feels: Sometimes you just want to feel all of the things. I get it. We’ve all been there.

Good Vibes: Get happy with this pick-me-up playlist full of feel good songs!

Mix It Up: Anyone that know me know that I love to listen to remixes of songs. This playlist consists of remixes of popular songs! Give it a listen!

Throwback: If you are a 90s or early 00s baby, this playlist is for you! This playlists has all the hits that were played during those classic middle school dances.

Rap: This one is pretty self explanatory. Go give it a listen!

Country: This one is pretty self explanatory too, but seriously who doesn’t love country music?! If you are driving with the windows down on a sunny day, laying on the beach, or just love country music as much as I do, check out this playlist!

Remember the game of M.A.S.H. everyone used to play at recess? Remember that time when you were young and innocent, and you totally believed life was as simple a recess game? I do.

Over the past 22 years I have realized life is more complicated than that game I played everyday at recess. I have realized that life and growing up is an unending process. It’s full of many ups and downs and trail and errors. It can be confusing, full of doubt, self-correction, and changed world perceptions. While it can be difficult, growing up is amazing. New people, places, and experiences. You learn to love yourself and what truly makes you happy and impassioned. Throughout my 22 years, I’ve learned about myself and gleaned pieces of wisdom by which to live. Here are 22 things I learned by 22.

1… An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means it’s going to launch you into something great. Sometimes your greatest heartaches turn into your greatest blessings.

2… You are either as beautiful or as ugly as you believe. You define your beauty. That’s not a power anyone can have over you.

3… No matter what happens in life, be good to people. Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind.

4… Don’t let what people think or say dictate the person you are or the person you are becoming. You can gain as much popularity or influence as you want, but if you’ve lost who you are you’re only worse off.

5… You will miss your whole life if you are caught up in your version of who you want to be instead of who you are.

6… It’s never too late to change your path or your life. You are not defined by your past nor your present.

7… Normal is so boring.

8… Never allow yourself to get too comfortable because when you’re comfortable there is no more room for growth.

9… Real happiness isn’t something large and looming on the horizon ahead. Real happiness is something small, numerous, and something that is already here. Real happiness is the smile of someone you love. A yummy Sunday breakfast or sunny mornings. Real happiness is all of your little joys lined up in a row.

10… Always go with your passions.

11… Forgiveness is one of the greatest gifts we have. It grants us permission to break free of burdens that restrict us from being at peace with ourselves. Resentment and remorse leave no room for growth.

12… You control your own happiness. Don’t blame other people for putting you in a bad mood. That’s on you for allowing it.

13… Being called “pretty” feels good, but it feels even better to be called pretty kind, pretty funny, pretty smart, and pretty strong.

14… Go for it because no matter how it ends, it was an experience.

15… Experience is so much more valuable than money so travel while you’re young and able. Don’t worry about the money, just make it work.

16… Eating well is a form of self-respect.

17… Every day may not be good, but there’s good in every day.

18… Be patient, everything is coming together. Beyoncé wasn’t built in a day either.

19… Work hard, but don’t let it take over your life. Eat salads and go to the gym, but never forget to have a cupcake for breakfast once in a while. Always find the balance in life.

20… It all begins and ends in your mind. What you give power to has power over you, if you allow it.

21… Life is too short to wear boring clothes.

22… Always surround yourself with people who feel like sunshine.
